Why Gdańsk
Freedom of creation, freedom of culture - so close to the bloggers - are both strong highlights of the city of Gdańsk. Contemporary Europe would not be a union of democratic states without the heritage given by Gdańsk: freedom, solidarity, dialogue and civic society. Gdansk of today is invariably the city of broad horizons, the city open to the world and changes, brave, tolerant and rich with new ideas, the place of debate and daring views, the place of free exchange of thoughts and cultural goods.
Gdańsk is a place of numerous cultural events related to the idea of freedom and independence of creation, e.g.: Solidarity of Arts, All About Freedom, Monumental Art, Narrations- Installations and Interventions in Public Space. Gdańsk has also established The European Poet of Freedom Award and Festival, Gdańsk School of Mural project, as well as plenty of educational projects, for example: I know, I do not destroy, I create and Gdańsk Miniatures.
The City of Gdańsk also undertakes a lot of actions addressed to artists and online communities as week as the ones dedicated to the democratization of public space and free access to cultural goods. A worldwide edition of Wikimania 2010 - Wikipedia conference (the largest encyclopedia ever created in the world) took place in Gdańsk.
